Mühlbauer Celebrates Grand Opening of Smart Factory Competence Center in Newport News, VA

On a two-date event in late February 2018, Mühlbauer Hightech International celebrated the Grand Opening of its Smart Factory Competence Center, in the company’s US site in Newport News, Virginia.

This facility, which has served as a base for Mühlbauer’s North American business activities since 1992, has now been expanded: In addition to the first demo room, which was opened in 2009, a new building of additional 51,200 square feet was completed in December 2017. It houses a showroom for product demonstrations and trainings as well as some additional assembly capacity. The project created 20 additional jobs and represents a $12 million dollar investment.

The two-day celebration commenced with a formal reception and a ribbon cutting ceremony featuring the company’s founder, Josef Mühlbauer, and Newport News Mayor, McKinley L. Price. The event also included tours around the brand new Industry 4.0 enabled Smart Factory Competence Center and live demonstrations of Mühlbauer’s latest technological innovations, amongst them highly automated production & personalization solutions for Semiconductors, RFID Inlays, Smart Card & ePassports and Vision technologies.

Another highlight of Mühlbauer’s Grand Opening was the American-Bavarian get-together: The relaxing evening gave all participants the opportunity to enjoy traditional Bavarian culture and cuisine.

With the brand new Smart Factory Competence Center, Mühlbauer now offers a one-of-a-kind exhibition space for the American market. Expertise in the fields of card personalization and laser engraving and many more can now directly be presented to Mühlbauer’s local customers and partners.
