Mühlbauer at World Money Fair 2020 in Berlin

Mühlbauer’s new inspection machine COIN INSPECT Flex (Lab) probably is the most versatile inspection solution for coins ever presented. Beside optical measures and an EMS sensor, the fully equipped version uses an X-ray apparatus, a sensor for conductivity measurement, and a high precision weighing device.  

All these measures can be essential for assessing the characteristics of a coin in an automated process. Counterfeiters are creative and sometimes you can distinguish between a genuine coin and a fake coin only by using a combination of optical and metallurgical techniques. COIN INSPECT Flex (Lab) is suitable for a wide range of applications. Among others, it can be used to build up a data base for more in-depth analysis, simulated calibration and deep learning processes. At the Technical Forum, prior to the trade fair, Dr. Ralf  Freiberger gave a keynote lecture with the topic: Time saving simulation of coin/blank inspection for the mint industry.

Interested visitors could watch the modular designed inspection machine COIN INSPECT Flex (Lab) in operation and discuss with employees from Mühlbauer possible configurations tailored to their specific demands. The use of the X-ray apparatus, the conductivity measurement or the weighing device requires a few seconds. In this case the COIN INSPECT Flex (Lab) runs in a clocked laboratory-mode at a throughput of approx.: 10 coins/min. Without these methods, i.e. with optical measures and EMS sensor only, the machine achieves a throughput of up to 1500 coins/min. Four active ejectors enable sorting of the coins into four different categories according to the inspection result. The ejected coins always remain in the same order.
